On the afternoon of August 28, the Chinese Academy of Sciences held a press conference in Beijing to announce five Tan Kah Kee Science Award winners and six Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award winners in 2020. Our researcher Sun Mingyue was awarded the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award.
The Tan Kah Kee Science Award and the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award are social science and technology awards established by the Tan Kah Kee Science Award Foundation and operated on the platform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The Tan Kah Kee Science Award and the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award have 6 awards respectively: Mathematical Science Award, Chemical Science Award, Life Science Award, Earth Science Award, Information Technology Science Award and Technology Science Award. The Tan Kah Kee Science Award is selected every two years, and each award is selected one at a time to reward major original scientific and technological achievements made in China recently; each award of the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award is selected one person at a time to reward independent Chinese Young scientific and technological talents under the age of 40 who have made important original scientific and technological achievements. Both awards highlight "original scientific and technological achievements" and encourage scientists to engage in basic scientific research.
Up to now, the Tan Kah Kee Science Award has selected 35 award-winning achievements (40 award-winning scientists), and the Tan Kah Kee Youth Science Award has selected 26 young scientific and technological talents.
In recent years, with the support of the national key research and development plan (transformative technology) project, the national science and technology major project (nuclear power), the National Natural Science Foundation, and the key deployment project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, our researcher Sun Mingyue and his team are in charge of the research department. Under the guidance and leadership, it broke through the limitation of the idea of "big forgings" and took the lead in proposing the idea of metal construction and forming in the world. The technology takes a number of small-sized homogenized slabs as the base element, through surface activation, vacuum packaging, high temperature deformation and other means, so that the construction interface is completely consistent with the substrate, and then obtain the homogenized base material required for large forgings, to achieve a new type of manufacturing "small to large. The research results have been applied to key components such as 110t alloy steel main shaft of hydropower and φ15.6m stainless steel giant ring of nuclear power, realizing "no one has me", which has played an important role in promoting the rapid development of high-end equipment in China and ensuring the independent control of core materials of major equipment. In 2019, the research results were selected into the "Magnificent 70 Years of Republic Development Achievement Tour".
